INTRODUCTION

About the Department

The Department of Commerce was started in the academic year June 2000 for girls and shift II was started in the year 2005. In 2011 additional section for B.Com General has been sanctioned by the University. In the same year, we have commenced B.Com (Tamil Medium). In the year 2012 Post Graduation Course M.Com (General) has been started.

The study of commerce includes subjects like Accounting, Taxation, Management, Statistics, Economics, financial services, banking, business law, and even the legal system in the business. The course will equip the students with the analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills to effectively identify issues, source information, and find efficient and practical solutions. A degree in Commerce is internationally recognized and offers a flexible pathway to diverse careers. Students can get into various industries including financial and insurance services, consulting, information management, and marketing and communications.

It is the most habitual course for career opportunities. Students get employment in the public sector in fields such as government, administration, education, training, health care, social assistance, arts and recreation, transport, and even they become entrepreneurs.

Major subjects: Following three major subjects of the Honours course:

(1) Accountancy (Financial, Corporate, Cost, Management)

(2) Financial Management

(3) Business communication

Inter-disciplinary and ancillary Electives (All compulsory)

The key strategies of commerce are to build relationships and develop policies that encourage and support innovation and commercial enterprise to create investment opportunities and enhance the potential for economic growth. Every year “ Kindle Fest” an interdepartmental program is conducted to encourage the students to sharpen their innate abilities, develop their knowledge, increase their level of confidence, face challenges and emerge as successful citizens.
